The OAB is responsible for a faculty-led, internal review process to assure minimum quality standards for Collin College courses taught 85%-100% online.
OAB Review is:
- Required for all District-wide online course templates prior to implementation. Development of templates is strongly encouraged for all Collin courses regularly offered online. Departments and their District Discipline Deans, Deans, or Associate Deans (as appropriate) should consult with the OAB and the Instructional Designers in preparation for the development and submission of course templates.
- Available for single-instructor designed online courses, at the discretion of supervisors in consultation with their instructors. This decision should take into account the instructor's online-teaching experience and prior successful experience with OAB course reviews.
- Performed annually in a random sampling per department with departments rotating through a multi-year, quality audit cycle. All courses with a W or B in the section number are potentially subject to review in this quality audit.
- Not required for courses with a Y in the section number (Hybrids).
eLC Desk Review is:
- Conducted by an Instructional Designer using the same checklists as an OAB Review.
- Used to both guide the design of the course and also review the course using the OAB Checklists.
- Recommended for any course (whether district template or single-instructor) that uses the Canvas Learning Management System (whether online, hybrid, or face-to-face) and is:
- Newly designed
- Recently redesigned
- Or has not previously had benefit of an Instructional Design review
For courses to be offered in a given semester, the submission due dates are as follows: | |
Please submit your paperwork as soon as possible in order for your course to be reviewed in a timely manner. IMPORTANT: If your submission is beyond the due date, please have your supervisor or Associate Dean request an extension from the Instructional Designer on your campus. The extension request should indicate why an extension is needed. |
