CONTRACT AND NONCONTRACT EMPLOYMENT:
TERM CONTRACTS

DDA
(LOCAL)

TEACHING FACULTY Teaching faculty shall be hired on a contractual basis.
MULTIYEAR CONTRACTS Three consecutive full-time years of satisfactory service (summer employment not required) qualify a faculty member for consideration for a first multiyear contract. However, appointments are not automatic.

The process for being considered for a multiyear contract begins with a formal application to the council on excellence. The decision to recommend a multiyear contract is based upon both the council's review as well as student, dean, and self-evaluations. Such evaluations take into consideration the quality of teaching, advising, task force participation, and other contributions to the college. The council on excellence forwards its recommendations to the vice-president for instruction (VPI). The VPI includes a recommendation and forwards the packet to the President, who presents his or her recommendation to the Board.

If a multiyear contract is approved by the Board, the resulting salary increase is effective with the September payroll of a given fiscal year.

If a multiyear contract is denied and a one-year contract is granted, the faculty member may reapply through the council on excellence for consideration the following year. Nonrenewal of employment shall be recommended for a faculty member following five one-year contracts.
