All About the Gradebook

Is the Canvas Gradebook a mystery to you? This workshop will demonstrate the different types of assignments you can create in Canvas and how to set up your Gradebook. Join us for a quick Gradebook rundown.

Canvas Calendar Scheduler and Appointment Groups

The Canvas Scheduler Calendar tool allows faculty to efficiently create appointment groups. Students can seamlessly sign up for one-on-one appointments or group meetings within the appointment group.

Canvas Up and Running

Get your course off to a strong start by checking the essentials off your list!  We will cover importing content from previous semesters, course organization, early-semester communication strategies, and getting the Gradebook set up properly.

Create Accessible Canvas Courses

Creating accessible courses in Canvas does not only create a more inclusive learning environment, it’s also just better design. Explore the available tools and design tips to create accessible Canvas courses. 

Objectives:

  • Discuss the challenges facing students and faculty
  • Explore simple and quick ways to make your Canvas course more accessible to all students – including those with disabilities
  • Introduction to using the Ally Course Accessibility Report Tool

Canvas Design from Scratch

Are you new to Canvas? In addition to taking our Teaching with Canvas Course, join us for a basic course build using Canvas.

  • Create a homepage, modules, and assignments
  • Review best practices for navigation and course design
  • Manage your course throughout the semester

Canvas Studio Basics

Are you new to Canvas? In addition to taking our Teaching with Canvas Course, join us for a basic course build using Canvas.

Objectives:

  • Recall the basic features and capabilities of Canvas Studio
  • Apply knowledge of Studio recording feature to record a video
  • Practice uploading an mp4 files into Studio
  • Demonstrate ability to share Studio video throughout a course

Create Accessible Documents

Creating accessible documents is an important step in catering to all learners. Learn how to utilize the accessibility tools in Office 365 to create accessible documents, PowerPoints, and PDFs. 

Objectives:

  • Check accessibility of Microsoft Office documents including Word and PowerPoint
  • Utilize Microsoft accessibility tools to make documents accessible to all learners
  • Create accessible PDF documents and use the Adobe accessibility checker

Using Groups in Canvas

Trying to create group discussions or assignments in Canvas? Let us show you how to use the “Groups” feature in Canvas to work with groups.

Objectives:

  • Summarize the basic features and capabilities of the ‘Groups’ feature in Canvas
  • Demonstrate how to build ‘Group Sets’
  • Prepare a group assignment or discussion

Canvas Studio Video Quizzes

Canvas Studio is already an incredibly useful tool for sharing video with learners, but did you know that you can check for comprehension by turning a Studio video into an assessment? Let us show you how!  

Objectives:

  • Produce a Canvas Studio Quiz
  • Structure a Canvas Studio Quiz to upload scores directly into the Canvas Gradebook

This workshop will go over the start of the semester checklist to help you prepare.  Topics include basic course setup and specific steps to take before the semester begins.

  • Locate Canvas course to design and build  
  • Prepare Concourse Syllabus
  • Check for ADA compliance
  • Explore eLC resources

Canva Presentations and Video

In addition to creating banners, buttons and course cards, you can also use Canva to create presentations and do video editing. 

Objectives:

  • Browse and search for presentation templates
  • Customize a Canva presentation
  • Export Canva documents to PowerPoint or a PDF file
  • Import or record a video to Canva
  • Navigate the Canva video editor
  • Add text, graphics, and background music
  • Export your Canva video to an MP4 file

Final Countdown - End of Semester Checklist

Are you ready for the end of the semester?  This workshop will review the end of the semester checklist so that you are prepared.

Objectives:

  • Review the Gradebook to make sure it’s setup correctly
  • Find student evaluations
  • Explore eLC resources
