Curriculum Advisory Board

The Curriculum Advisory Board (CAB) is charged with reviewing all changes in curricula, catalog listings, or other academic issues, including the addition of new courses and programs, and making recommendations to the designated Academic Officer (AO) in accordance with the policies of the Collin College Board of Trustees, the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB), the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC), and the U.S. Department of Education (USED). Further, the CAB is charged with providing a faculty-driven forum to address college-wide issues through a curricular perspective.

The CAB is comprised of representatives from the faculty who will each serve a three-year term. Members can serve a second three-year term before rolling off for at least one year.  Additionally, serving as ex officio members for three-year terms each are an Academic Deans' liaison, a Workforce Deans' liaison, a Student Enrollment Services liaison, an Institutional Research Office liaison, and an Academic Partnerships liaison.

CAB members are encouraged to report proceedings to the dean(s), associate dean(s), and faculty associated with their discipline area, division and campus to facilitate increased communication to and from the CAB.

Duties

All members of the CAB shall review each curricular proposal to verify the following:

  • The course / program is appropriate and
    • consistent with the mission and strategic plan of Collin College.
    • relevant to its degree / certificate plan.
    • not a duplication of other courses / programs offered at Collin.
    • includes measurable student learning outcomes.
    • has sufficient resources and commitment to support the proposal.
  • The course description is appropriate and includes all necessary information (prerequisites, lab hours, etc.).
  • Compliance with common course numbering, accuracy of approval numbers, and other administrative details consistent with guidelines of all approving bodies.
  • The program includes the necessary courses to satisfy any technical and general education requirements of all approving bodies.
  • Course inventory enrollments are considered to maintain a curriculum that contributes to institutional effectiveness.
Members will make recommendations to the designated AO regarding curricular proposals or will remand to the sending dean. Only voting members will be eligible to participate in recommendation voting.
